UCSC Study Abroad is a UCSC student hub for study, intern, volunteer, teach and work abroad resources. Located in the Division of Global Engagement, 101 Classroom Unit Building, the office is open Monday - Friday from 9:00am -12:00PM & 1:00PM - 4:00pm.

  • Alice Hancock

    Alice Michel
    Director of Study Abroad

    Alice is the UCSC Study Abroad Advisor for the Independent Study Abroad programs

    Alice has worked in the field of international education for over ten years. While receiving her B.A. in Anthropology and English from UC Santa Barbara, Alice studied abroad on UCEAP during her junior year at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. After graduating, she participated on the JET Program, teaching English in Japan for two years. She has travelled extensively around Asia, Europe and parts of Africa, totaling over 30 countries. In addition to travel, Alice enjoys hiking, backpacking, attempting to learn French, and any race or activity that involves running.

  • Sara Branley

    Sara Branley
    Study Abroad Advisor

    Sara is the UCSC Study Abroad Advisor for the following programs: Asia, Ireland, Oceania & UK.

    Sara earned her B.A. in Sociology from UC Santa Barbara in 2004 and her M.Ed. in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs from USC in 2010. She first discovered her love of travel while studying abroad in Galway, Ireland. She later returned to work in Dublin after graduation. Since then, Sara has traveled to Europe, South America, and the Middle East. In her free time, Sara likes running, hiking, reading, and spending time with her husband, daughter, cockapoo, and tortoise.  

  • Christopher Hanson

    Christopher Hanson
    Study Abroad Advisor

    Christopher is the UCSC Study Abroad Advisor for the following programs: The Americas, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain, & Sweden.

    He is a California native who earned his B.A. in History, with a concentration in Europe, from UCSC. While attending UCSC, Christopher discovered his passion for international education while studying abroad through UCEAP at Lund University, Sweden. He began his career at the International Education Office as a Peer Advisor. Since then, Christopher has traveled extensively in North America and Europe. When he is not advising students on study abroad, you can find Christopher traveling or spending time outdoors with his dog Maximus.

  • Kathy Gordon

    Kathy Gordon
    Study Abroad Advisor

    Kathy is the UCSC Study Abroad Advisor for the following programs: Africa, France, Italy, Switzerland, European Multi-City programs & Middle East.

    Kathy grew up in Southern California and moved to Oregon to study at Pacific University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She earned a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Iowa State University, where she worked in the Study Abroad Center. Kathy has since worked in the fields of Programs Abroad and Residence Life at universities in North Carolina, Oregon, California and Colorado. She studied abroad in Wales and Ireland, and interned at University of Wales, Swansea. She has traveled extensively around the United Kingdom, Ireland and Italy, and has visited Mexico, Canada, and countries throughout Europe. In her free time, Kathy relaxes at home with her cat Atticus and travels around California visiting friends and family.
