Optional Practical Training Workshops
F-1 students applying for OPT must attend an OPT workshop. Sign-up on the UCSC Events Manager website for the Spring 13 quarter OPT workshops on 4/10/13, 4/23/13, 5/1/13, and 5/16/13. Summer OPT Workshops are being offered on 6/20/13 and 7/22/13.
Taxes
The California Franchise Tax Board provides an annual workshop on filing California state taxes. The 2013 workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 4pm in Cervantes and Velasquez Conference Room at the Bay Tree Conference Center. Space is limited, please sign up on the UCSC Events Manager website by Tuesday, 02/26.
Beyond the F-1 and J-1: Work Visas and Permanent Residence After Graduation
This workshop offers a general overview of different opportunities beyond your F-1 or J-1 status, with focuses on H-1B status and Permanent Residence (Green Card). Date, time, and location tbd.
Understanding the U.S. Culture
This session will provide an introduction to the U.S./UCSC Culture: idioms and expressions; social behaviors; popular places to go to, etc. It will also introduce the concept of culture shock. International Scholar & Family Gathering
The International Scholar & Family Gathering provides opportunities for J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, and E-3 scholars and their dependents to network, share cultural experiences, establish friendships and build a supportive social community. The evening will include a light dinner in a casual setting. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, 6-8pm at UCSC's Women's Center. Confirm your participation here.
International Scholar & Family Picnic
The International Scholar & Family Picnic is a day filled with fun activities for both children and adults, including a barbecue lunch. This year's event will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 11am-3pm at the UCSC Cowell Provost House. Confirm your participation here!
Bowling Night
ISSS invites all scholars and their families for a night of fun on the lanes. As long as you are one of the first 25 guests to register for the event, there is no cost to bowl. Light refreshments will be served! Date, time, and location tbd.
